What should I bring to shop at the New Jersey dispensary?
The only thing you will need to make a purchase at a New Jersey dispensary is your valid government-issued photo ID and money to pay for your cannabis purchase. You must be 21 years of age or older to purchase cannabis in NJ.
Can you just walk into a New Jersey dispensary and buy something?
In order to enter the dispensary, you will need to show your identification at the door to verify you are 21 or older. Most dispensaries have an entry barrier before you get into the actual dispensary sales floor where an employee will scan the back of your ID. This area serves as a sort of security checkpoint to make sure no one underage gets inside. However, these areas may also serve as waiting areas as only so many customers are allowed on the sales floor at one time.
What is it like inside an NJ cannabis dispensary?
When you get inside a NJ cannabis dispensary, you will be greeted by a budtender who can help you explore and make a purchase. Cannabis products are not out and accessible to touch and examine. Instead, the products are usually held in secured areas in cases or behind a service counter. The budtender will allow you to evaluate products before making a purchase. For example, if you want to get a closer look at a certain cannabis strain, the budtender will allow you to do so. Additionally, the menu will change daily as products sell, and new items are added.
Do NJ dispensaries track you?
NJ dispensaries do not retain records of your personal information to track purchases. They will need to see your valid government-issued photo ID to verify you are 21 or over, but they don’t store this information. Some dispensaries may have programs that you can sign up for to get special savings, but those programs are optional to you as a customer.
How much cannabis can I buy in NJ?
The state of NJ states that dispensaries are allowed to sell an ounce of cannabis during a single transaction. This means you can purchase one ounce of flower or five grams of resins, oils, or concentrates, or 1000mg of ingestible cannabis products. Or, you can purchase any combination of product types that the state considers to equal an ounce. For instance, if you purchase a half ounce of flower, you can purchase 500mg of edibles or 2.5 grams of concentrates.
Can I visit more than one NJ dispensary a day?
You are free to visit as many NJ dispensaries in a single day as you like. The purchase limits enforced in NJ apply even if you visit multiple dispensaries in one day, however. Therefore, if you buy half an ounce of flower at one dispensary, you would only be legally allowed to buy half an ounce at another dispensary.
Can you shop in a NJ dispensary if you live out of state?
You are allowed to shop at a New Jersey dispensary even if you live out of state. However, you will still need to show your state’s valid, government-issued photo ID to make a purchase.
How do you pay for cannabis at a NJ dispensary?
Most NJ dispensaries will only accept cash for your cannabis purchase. However, you may have access to an on-site ATM if you don’t have cash with you, and some dispensaries have affiliations with third-party payment processors. Unfortunately, credit and debit card purchases are not typically allowed.
